Valley Patriots are AREA CHAMPS!!

by Coach Ramsey

November 21, 2011

The Valley Patriots met up with the Ropes Eagles in Petersburg Friday night to battle for the area 6-man football championship. The Patriots flexed their powerful ground game, to pound the Eagles into submission and come away with the 67-22 win. Kameron Buchanan had a monster night carrying the ball for the Patriots. He racked up 192 yards on 13 carries and 6 touchdowns. Wesley Rigdon returned to action with 9 carries for 60 yards. Talyn Pointer also scored on a 5-yard plunge just before halftime. Ricky Mendoza added 128 yards passing, including a 34 yard scoring strike to Adan Alanis in the 3rd quarter.Jose Valdez was 6 of 8 on extra point kicks, to round out the scoring for Valley.
The Patriot defenders also did a good job containing the Ropes spread offense for the evening, as they limited the Eagles to just three touchdowns. Senior defensive ends Jose Valdez and Ricky Mendoza led the defense with 16 and 13 tackles respectively. Ketch Smith also had a good defensive game for the Patriots, as he added double digit tackles and covered the best receiver for most of the evening. Kambo Buchanan and Talyn Pointer made big contributions too with 12 and 10 tackles.
The victory propels Valley into the regional quarterfinals, where they will face a familiar foe in the Meadow Broncos. Meadow defeated Crowell to reach the quarterfinals. The game will be played in Plainview Friday evening at 4:00 pm. It will be the first of a double header, that also features a division 2 playoff game between the Motley County Matadors and the Amherst Bulldogs. We need to fill the stands Friday and cheer our boys on in their quest for a state title! Go Blue!!!
