Valley Patriots BEAT Paducah for the 

District Championship!  

 

January24, 2012--- Valley played a solid game on Tuesday in a non-district tilt against Trinity Christian JV out of Lubbock. The Patriots used a 23 point 4th quarter to pull away to a 58-51 victory. Scoring for the Patriots were: Chandler Rigdon 18 pts., Talyn Pointer 15 pts., Wesley Rigdon 11pts., Ketch Smith 8pts., Ricky Mendoza 5 pts., and Kameron Buchanan 1 pt.


On Friday, January 27, 2012, the Patriots traveled to Matador to take on Motley Co. The Patriots got started early with a 14-2 1st quarter and never looked back knocking of the Matadors 78-17. Scoring for the Patriots were: Ketch Smith 17 pts., Wesley and Chandler Rigdon 13 pts., Brennan Allen 11 pts., Ricky Mendoza 7 pts., Cody Heck 6 pts., Talyn Pointer 4 pts., Kameron Buchanan and Carson Proctor 3pts., and Ben Seth Ramsey 2 pts.


Valley is now 15-4 on the season and 5-1 in district
Next for the Patriots is Guthrie at Valley on Tuesday and @ Jayton on Friday.

 

Jan. 17, 2012---Valley Patriot Basketball


The Valley Patriots took a tough loss Tuesday at the hands of the Paducah Dragons 65-66. The Patriots struggled early and late in the game and the Dragons hit a 3 pt shot with under  6 seconds left in the game to give the Dragons a one point victory.  Scoring for the Patriots were:  Wesley Rigdon 19 pts 10 reb. 5 steals, Chandler Rigdon 18 pts 6 reb, Talyn Pointer  11 pts 6 reb. 4 steals 3 asst., Ricky Mendoza 7 pts 7 reb, Ketch Smith 5 pts, Kameron Buchanan 3 pts, Carson Proctor 2 pts.
The Patriots were open on Friday and return to action in a non-district match with Trinity Christian JV  on Tuesday and return to district play on Friday at Motley Co.

 

Valley Boys Basketball----January 6, 2012

Valley went on the road Friday and ran into a determined group of Jaguars. The Patriots struggled most of the night but turned up the heat in the final three and a half minutes to come from 9 down and pull out a one point victory to remain tied for the lead in district. The Patriots knocked off Guthrie 50 – 49 to move to 11-3 on the year and 2-0 in district. Scoring for the Patriots were: Wesley Rigdon 17, Chandler Rigdon 12, Ketch Smith and Kameron Buchanan 5, Ricky Mendoza 4, Talyn Pointer 3, Ben Seth Ramsey and Carson Proctor 2. Next up for the Patriots is the Jayton Jaybirds at Valley on Tuesday and the Spur Bulldogs in Spur on Friday.

 

 

January 3, 2012----

On Tuesday the Patriots got back into district hosting the Matadors of Motley Co. The Patriots proved too much for the Matadors winning 77-22. The Patriots got of to an early lead and never looked back running their season record to 10-3, and 2-0 in district. Scoring for the Patriots were Wesley Rigdon 23, Chandler Rigdon 13, Talyn Pointer 9, Ketch Smith was 100% shooting on the night and had 8,  Kameron Buchanan 7, Cody Heck 6, Ben Seth Ramsey 5, Carson Proctor and Ricky Mendoza had 4, Brennan Allen didn’t take a shot but has 2 assist and 3 deflections and 2 steals.

Next up for the Patriots is a trip to Guthrie on Friday!

 

Slaton Tournament---Dec. 28-30

The Valley Patriots used some tough competition at the Slaton tournament during the holiday break to get some conditioning and get ready for the district schedule ahead. The Patriots open the tournament with the 2A host Slaton. The boys fought hard but came up a bit short, losing 62-58. Wesley Rigdon led the team in scoring with 22 pts. and also grabbed 10 rebounds. Chandler Rigdon chipped in 15 pts. Ketch Smith had 7 point, Kameron Buchanan had 6. Also getting on the board were Ricky Mendoza 4pts, Talyn Pointer 2 pts., and Cody Heck 2pts.

Moving into the consolation bracket, the Patriots ran into the Buffaloes of Petersburg.  After a tight first quarter and a half, the Patriots put together a run in the last 2 minutes of the half to pull out to a 6 pt lead and kept that momentum into the second half with a 17-5 third quarter. The Patriots played tough defense in the second half giving up only 10 total point leading to a 54 – 31 win for the Patriots. Scoring for the Patriots were Chandler Rigdon 23, Kameron Buchanan 8, Wesley Rigdon 6, Talyn Pointer  5, Ricky Mendoza and Ketch Smith 4, Carson Proctor and Ben Seth Ramsey 2.

In the Consolation Game the Patriots ran into the Tahoka Bulldogs. The Patriots jump out to an early 22-5 lead before going cold and just couldn’t get the ball to go into the basket. The Patriots fought hard but didn’t have enough to pull out a win, losing 48-44. The 20 -9 third quarter put the Valley in a hole they could not climb out. Scoring for the Patriots were Kameron Buchanan 10, Ricky Mendoza 9, Wesley Rigdon and Ketch Smith 7, Chandler Rigdon 6, Talyn Pointer 3, Carson Proctor 2. Ricky Mendoza had a solid all around game getting 4 reb, 2 assist, 9 deflections, 3 Steals and took 3 charges to go along with his 9 points.

 

Dec 16, 17, 18 2011----Valley Patriots take 2nd Place in Caprock Canyon Christmas Classic in Double Overtime! The Valley Patriots had a great showing at the Caprock Canyon Christmas Classic tournament hosted this weekend in Valley and Silverton. The Patriots came into the games undefeated on the season. The first round matchup against Cotton Center was dominated from the start by the Patriots. Valley led 21-5 at the end of one quarter and extended the lead to 46-8 at the half. The final score on the night ended up 79-19. Valley had 4 players score in double figures. Leading the way was Talyn Pointer with 16, followed by Chandler Rigdon with 15, Cody Heck with 13 and Ketch Smith with 10.

The second round game proved to be defensive battle with the offense struggling early on. The Patriots were down 20-11 in the 1st half but battled back to take a hard fought 42-40 win over the Petersburg Buffaloes. Leading scorers for Valley were Kameron Buchanan and Wesley Rigdon with 11 points each.

Next on the list for Valley was Kress. Valley opened up a close game in the second quarter out scoring their opponent 24-14 to take a 10 point half time lead and held on to win 61-53. Leading the way for the Patriots in scoring were Chandler Rigdon with 21, Wesley Rigdon with 19 and Talyn Pointer with 13. The win vaulted the Patriots into the Championship game.

In the championship the Patriots faced the the #4 ranked team in Class A Div I Hale Center Owls. The Patriots faced a height disadvantage against the Owls who have 5 players over 6'2". The Patriots battled defensively and on the boards all night. Down 10 points going into the 4th quarter the Patriots used their quickness to pressure Hale Center and get the game tied at 60 at the end of regulation. It took 2 overtimes to decide the game with the Owls coming out on top 75-71.

The championship game was a fitting conclusion to a very good tournament. The Patriots will go into the Christmas break with a 8-1 overall record. They will return to action on Dec 28th in the Slaton Tournament before heading into the district race in Jan.

Dec 7, 2011---The Valley Patriot JV boy's basketball team began their season keeping up with the Valley winning tradition. The ending score of 53-38 over Memphis gave the JV boys a good starting confidence to keep up the winning streak.

The Valley Patriot Varsity Boy's basketball team started their late season off with a nail biter. Throughout the game, Valley was constantly down an average of 15 points. With three minutes left in the 4th quarter we had a burst of energy and came back within 5 points. 2 made free throws by Chandler Rigdon, followed by a crucial 3 pointer, also by Chandler Rigdon, put the game at a tie and into overtime. 4 additional minutes of intense back and forth shots made by both teams kept the game close until the very end. Fouls made by Memphis and multiple made free throws by Valley players Chandler Rigdon, Kameron Buchanan, Wesley Rigdon, and Ketch Smith eventually pulled us far enough away to leave with a victory!

 

Dec 8, 9, 10 2011----The Valley basketball teams participated in the Meadow tournament this past weekend with tremendous results. Both the boys and girls brought home the championship trophy.The boys route to the finals saw them first take on Kingdom Prep out of Lubbock. This was a close game throughout, with Valley coming out on top by a 51-42 score. Wesley Rigdon and Ketch Smith led all scorers with 14 and 11 points. The next round saw Valley taking on a very athletic Morton squad. Valley once again found a way to win a close contest by a 57-50 margin. Chandler Rigdon and Talyn Pointer led the way this time with 13 and 12 points. The championship game saw Valley taking on the host team, the Meadow Broncos. Valley would erase an early deficit and lead the rest of the way en route to a 53-38 win. The Patriots had four players in double figures. Talyn Pointer had 14, and Ricky Mendoza, Chandler Rigdon, and Wesley Rigdon each had 10 points.
