LADY PATRIOTS FINISH DISTRICT PLAY UNDEFEATED
The Valley Lady Patriots played their final district game Tuesday night at home against Spur. The Lady Patriots used a 30 point second quarter to propel them to a 76-25 win. The victory moved Valley to a perfect 12-0 in district play, and finalized their district 6-A championship. Kristen Jenkins would lead an aggressive full court defense with 10 steals and six deflected passes. She also would lead all scorers with 24 points. Valley did have a balanced scoring attack though, with three other girls in double figures. Chambray Smith had a good night with 14 points, and Abby Hill and Caitlyn Brown made a big contribution with 11 points each. Haley Wheeler came off of the bench in the second quarter to hit 2 big three pointers to spark the all important 2nd quarter surge. Others scoring for Valley were Jordan Noland-4, Kammi Warr-3, April Villarreal-2, and Madison Meyer with 1 point. The Lady Patriots will have a bye in the first round of the playoffs, due to their district championship. Their area round game will be on Friday the 17th of February against an opponent to be determined. Great Job Girls on the district championship, and good luck in your playoff run!!
The Valley Lady Patriots clinched the district 6-A title this past week with wins over both Guthrie and Jayton. Valley still has one remaining district game this next Tuesday against Spur, but holds a two game lead over Paducah.
Tuesday night had the Guthrie Lady Jags coming to town. This has developed into one of the bigger district rivals for Valley, and the game Tuesday night was an example of why. Guthrie played Valley very hard for three quarters, with both teams battling foul trouble from the start. The depth of the Lady Patriot squad turned out to be the difference in the end. Valley held a 12 point lead going into the 4th quarter, but when two of Guthrie's starters fouled out, the Lady Patriots ended up with a 57-35 win. Kristen Jenkins and Abby Hill were the leading scorers for Valley with 18 and 12 points respectively. These two girls also led the way defensively with numerous steals. Others scoring for Valley were as follows: Caitlyn Brown-7, Chambray Smith-6, Kammi Warr-5, Haley Wheeler-3, April Villarreal-2, Jordan Noland-2, and Madison Meyer with 2 points.
Friday, the team traveled to Jayton. Valley would race to a 30-6 first quarter lead, in route to a 73-20 win. Kristen Jenkins would score a career high 29 points to lead Valley. Haley Wheeler also was in double figures with 11 points. Others scoring were Jordan Noland-8, Caitlyn Brown-7, Chambray Smith-6, Abby Hill-5, Kammi Warr-4, and Madison Meyer with 3 points.
Congratulations girls on a District Championship!
