PATRIOTS POUND THE PANTHERS
The Valley Patriots took on the Follett Panthers this past Friday at Patriot Stadium in the home opener for Valley. Follett, coming off of an appearance in last year's state championship game, came in as 10 point favorites. After the two teams traded early touchdowns, the Patriots would shut down the Panthers offense, while continuing to score almost at will, to come up with the convincing 54-6 win. The game ended at half due to the 45 point mercy rule. Patriot quaterback Zack Stumbo led the offensive charge with 5 touchdown passes to 5 different receivers. Stumbo also scrambled for a 41 yard touchdown run as well. Jake Merrell was Stumbo's leading receiver with 3 catches for 51 yards and a touchdown. Jack Price, Juan Villarreal, Joe Carrera, and Trey Smith also had touchdown catches. Adrian Espinoza was Valley's leading rusher with 10 carries for 107 yards and a touchdown. Dax Allen chipped in 43 yards on 7 carries.
The Patriot defense did a great job on the evening, holding the Panthers to just one touchdown. Valley would bend occasionally but didn't break as they held the Panther offense in check.Jake Merrell had 6 tackles and 1 caused fumble to lead the defense. Dax Allen and Zack Stumbo followed with 5 tackles each. Joe Carrera and Adrian Espinoza chipped in 4 tackles each, and Adrian Stripped the ball from a Panther receiver as he was going in for a score to prevent a touchdown.
The win moves the Patriots to 2-0 on the season. They will be at home this next Friday when the Happy Cowboys come to town. Game time is set for 7:30 so come out and support your Valley Patriots!
